Observation Physicians of Tidewater (OPT) focuses on the care and management of patients requiring observation care beyond the scope of the Emergency Department. OPT provides excellent patient based care in an Observation Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital through:
- Dedicated provider team consisting of OPT hospitalists and APPs
- Protocolized care based on diagnosis specific pathways
- Multi-disciplinary care through strong relationships with consultants and hospital staff
- Focus on efficient patient care through frequent reassessments and clearly established goals of care

Ryan Tomberg completed Medical School and Emergency Medicine Residency through EVMS, graduating residency in 2018. Ryan has worked clinically at a variety of Emergency Departments and has served as Director of OPT and Observation Services since 2022. Ryan’s interests include leadership development, clinical operations and observation medicine.
Hailey Reid, PA
OPT LEAD APP
Hailey Reid graduated from EVMS in 2020 and worked Pulmonary Critical Care for 3 years during COVID before transitioning to EPT/OPT 2023. Her clinical interests include autoimmune disorders and critical care management including advanced procedures. Hailey is passionate about teaching patients to understand their medical conditions to improve their health and fellow colleagues to help advance their medical knowledge.
