2010


Valerie Baur, M.D., (PGY-3), Rebecca Ryszkiewicz, M.D. (Chief Resident), and Michelle Clinton, M.D. (PGY-2)
won the Virginia ACEP Emergency Medicine Residency Quiz Bowl Competition on August 17, 2010.  They competed against EM residency teams from the University of Virginia, the Virginia Commonwealth University, and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Bruce Lo, M.D.,
Assistant Professor received the Best Presenter - Faculty Award at the Mid-Atlantic SAEM Conference in Charlottesville, Virginia, April 2010.

Francis Counselman, M.D.,
Professor was named a 2010 Senior Editorial Consultant by the American Journal of Emergency Medicine (top 5% of reviewers).

Bruce Lo, M.D.,
Assistant Professor, received the 2010 John P. McDade Award for Research in Emergency Medical Care (post-graduate category) from Virginia ACEP for his study entitled, "Comparison of Traditional versus High Fidelity Simulation in Retention of ACLS Knowledge", February 2010.

Dave Evans, M.D.,
Chief Resident, received the 2010 John P. McDade Award for Research in Emergency Medical Care (resident category) from Virginia ACEP for his study entitled, "Comparison of Standard Direct Laryngoscopy versus Pediatric King LT-D in a Simulated Difficult Pediatric Airway", February 2010.

Professor received the 2009 Heatwole Career Achievement Award from the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, February 2009.


Moss H. Mendelson, M.D., Associate Professor was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society (Gamma Chapter), May 2009.

James O. Carleo, M.D., Assistant Professor was named "Outstanding Emergency Physician of the Year" by the Virginia Beach Department of EMS, May 2009.  In the future, this annual award will be called "The Carleo Award".

Rusty W. Hundley, EMT-P received the "Award for Excellence in Emergency Medical Services" by the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) Council, Virginia Beach, Virginia, May 2009.

The EVMS EM Residency won the Second Annual Virginia ACEP Emergency Medicine Residency Quiz Bowl Competition, August 1, 2002. They competed against Emergency Medicine residency teams from the Medical College of Virginia, the University of Virginia, and the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.  This is the second time in a row our EM residents won this award.  The EVMS team consisted of Wendy Curulla, M.D., Jed Sadalla, M.D. and  Michael White, M.D.
